The problem

Two regulators, two spreadsheets, one margin.

UK packaging compliance now means two separate regimes - EPR with PackUK / DEFRA, and PPT with HMRC. Different cadences, different rates, different submission portals, same underlying packaging data. Most distributors are running two spreadsheets and reconciling them by hand.

Rules change quarterly across both regimes.

DEFRA base fees, PPT rates, modulation, producer thresholds, 30% recycled rules. Your spreadsheet went stale the day you built it - and you don't have time to rebuild it for either regime, let alone both.

Per-SKU calculation is brutal at scale.

Material breakdown, recyclability, recycled content, tonnage, plastic weight, recycled plastic %. Multiply by 200 SKUs. Add two regulators and four PPT quarters per year. Nobody has time for that.

If you don't price it in, it eats your margin.

EPR can add 2 to 6 percent to your cost of goods. PPT adds another £223/t on top of unrecycled plastic. Without per-SKU pricing recommendations you absorb both or lose the customer with a clumsy uplift.

How packlah works

Two regimes. One SKU catalogue. One workspace.

Partner network

EPR data that moves between you and your trading partners.

The data each side needs already exists - it's just in the other business's system. Brand owners chase suppliers for spec sheets twice a year; suppliers rebuild the same spreadsheet for every customer who asks. Packlah moves it properly: request packaging data from any supplier, or share a verified data pack with any customer - matched into the receiving catalogue SKU by SKU.

  • Request specs from suppliers - they can reply without an account
  • Share verified data packs with customers in minutes
  • Incoming SKUs matched to your codes - one review each, then automatic
  • Costs and prices never shared - specs and fees only

What customers say

Built with the people who deal with EPR every day.

“We were spending two days a quarter rebuilding the EPR spreadsheet. Packlah recalculated 380 SKUs in under a minute when the Q1 rates dropped.”

JM
Jamie Marsh
Head of Procurement, Northstar Foods

“The per-customer rate sheet was the killer feature. We sent 18 customer rate updates last quarter in a single afternoon.”

SR
Sara Rai
Commercial Director, Pinegrove

“Honestly we hadn't priced EPR into anything. Packlah showed us we were losing 3.4% margin on our top line - we'd have run out of cash by Christmas.”

FAQ

Common questions.

Packlah's rate library is sourced from the published DEFRA pEPR schedule for EPR and the HMRC published rate for PPT. Both are updated within 24 hours of any published change. Every historical calculation stays reproducible against the rate snapshot in force when it was run.
Yes - PPT (UK Plastic Packaging Tax) is included in all paid plans, calculated from the same SKU catalogue as your EPR fees. Quarterly returns to HMRC, recycled-content scenario modelling, and threshold monitoring all sit alongside the EPR workflow. See our dedicated PPT page for detail.
Small producer thresholds are based on annual turnover and packaging tonnage placed on the UK market. We have a free 30-second quiz that tells you which category you fall into and what your obligations are. Note that EPR producer tiers are separate from the PPT 10-tonne registration threshold.
Three things: rates stay current automatically across both regimes, your historical calculations are reproducible (every snapshot is preserved with the rates in force at the time), and the customer pricing layer is purpose-built. A spreadsheet can do the maths. It can't keep up with EPR and PPT changing at the same time.
You submit, not us - we produce submission-ready data. For EPR, that goes via your compliance scheme to PackUK. For PPT, you file directly with HMRC via Government Gateway. Packlah produces the format each regulator expects.
Your SKU catalogue and calculations are private to your organisation. We never share data across customers. Hosted on UK-region infrastructure with row-level isolation on every tenant table. Full data export available at any time.
Yes. Producers can request packaging specs from any supplier by email - the supplier can reply without creating an account. Suppliers can share a verified data pack with each customer: specs, weights, recyclability and indicative fees, never costs or prices. Every link is protected by a one-time email code, you approve exactly what is shared, and incoming SKUs are matched to your catalogue with a one-time review. Receiving data is free.
Yes. A 14-day full-feature trial with the EPR calculator and PPT both included, no card required. When it ends you pick a plan - PPT-only filing from £29/mo, or the full EPR toolkit from £99/mo. Need longer to evaluate properly? Just ask.
